Questions about the PDFs

Are these really free?

Yes. There is no charge, no email to hand over and no account to create. The files are free to download, keep, print and pass on. The one thing we ask is that you do not sell them.

Which edition should I pick?

If you read Arabic and want to recite, take the Arabic edition. If you want to understand what you are reciting, take Arabic with English. If your eyes struggle with a normal mushaf, take the large print. The pocket edition is for printing as a small booklet to carry.

Can I print these and hand them out at the mosque?

Yes, and that is a good use for them. Print as many copies as you need and distribute them freely. Please keep the last page, which carries the source and licence information, with the file.

Where does the Arabic text come from?

The Tanzil Project, which publishes a carefully verified Quran text used by a large number of Quran applications and websites. It is reproduced here exactly as published, with no changes of any kind. The full notice is on the last page of every file.

Which translation is used?

Abdullah Yusuf Ali, which is in the public domain. It is one of the most widely read English translations. If you want the meaning explained rather than translated, our guide to the meaning of Surah Yasin goes through the surah section by section.

Is there a transliteration edition?

Not yet. A transliteration has to come from a verified source rather than being generated, and we would rather publish nothing than publish something approximate. In the meantime, this guide explains how to use transliteration well and where it falls short.
